Emery is now the proud owner of her very own library card. So proud of this girl. Although she's always been a whiz at math, she really struggled with reading and from kindergarten through the middle of first grade we worked through three different reading programs until we finally decided to set them all aside and let it come to her when she was ready. In that time we did lots of read alouds together as a family, let her read fun simple books, and just let her learn at her own pace. Since the beginning of this school year she has already read over 26 good sized chapter books on her own! The books that would at one time take her weeks to read now take her an hour or two and now she's flying through 400+ page books. For all the hours of struggling through reading lessons I should have realized that, just like the rest of parenting experiences, sometimes things take time and that's perfectly okay. God made each one of our kids unique in their own way and to try to fit them into some arbitrary mold or standard is ultimately foolish. I'm slowly learning this lesson! #learningpatience #ranemschoolhouse #homeschool
